The primary windings of voltage transformers are connected across the line. They step-down the line voltage to a value suitable for standard meters, normally 115 volts or 120 volts. In basic construction, voltage transformers are much like power transformers except that the current and the kVA capacity are very low. They are designed to give a very accurate voltage transformation.
